Types of window blinds
Blinds are accessories for the window that are made of strips of different kind of material. They are produced by many companies in a great variety of design. The main types are
roller shades, Venetian blinds and curtain-like track blinds , but every type has different advantages. Their main purpose is to receive the needed amount of sunshine and to control the light. |
If we go back in history we will see again that the Egyptians were the first who tied up reeds to make some primitive blinds. At that period in China people used bamboo. In the eighteenth century blinds were used to replace wooden shutters. The cheapest shades at that time were hand-made cloth roller blade.
| Slat blinds are constructed of strips that can be rotated in order to be opened. They are the most widespread type and usually are made of metal or plastic. There design allows the slats to be rotated so the light may enter the room. The rotation can be up to 170 degrees and at that position they they’re closed. Otherwise they can pulled up so the entire window to be clear. |

Venetian blinds are made of horizontal slats one above the other. They are hanged up by strips or cords so that they can be bend up to 180 degrees. Lift cords are passing through holes in the slats so when they’re pulled the blind is lifted. This blind type is made of metal, plastic and those which are wooden are often referred to as wood or bamboo blinds . Î n 11th December 1769 Edward Beran patented Venetian blinds but actually they were invented by the Japanese.
A new and modern type of shades is so called
Roman blinds. Now they become vary popular and modern because of their stylish design. The used material is often soft fabric folded in pleats, so they much resemble the classical view of the Venetian blinds, but they are very flexible and offer economical alternative of the roller blades.
